A real run (autumn woodland · 5–6 year olds · risk-benefit & child-led):
Activity / Provocation Idea: Create an inviting "Autumn Loose Parts Grove" in a sheltered woodland clearing. Lay a large, low tarp on the ground and artfully scatter handfuls of fallen leaves in every colour, sturdy sticks of different lengths, smooth stones, pinecones, acorns, and a few short lengths of natural rope. Add two or three low, stable logs nearby for sitting or balancing — no adult-made toys, just the woodland's own gifts. Children arrive to discover the spread and are free to carry, sort, build, hide or dance with the materials however they choose. Risk-taking opportunities include balancing on the logs, lifting heavier sticks together, or climbing gently over small root mounds while adults stay nearby but hands-off. The provocation supports sensory play (crunching leaves, feeling wind), imaginative play (leaf "nests" or "weather shelters"), physical play and social play… Forest Alignment & Rationale: nature itself is the teacher; every item comes from the woodland and will return to it…
